Damage Control! Damage Control! GOP Attack!
CLEANUP ON AISLE 4! President Obama, delivering a 10:40 a.m. statement on the economy in the Brady Press Briefing Room: “[W]e’ve created 4.3 million jobs over the last 27 months, over 800,000 just this year alone. The private sector is doing fine. Where we’re seeing weaknesses in our economy have to do with state and local government — oftentimes, cuts initiated by governors or mayors who are not getting the kind of help that they have in the past from the federal government and who don’t have the same kind of flexibility as the federal government in dealing with fewer revenues coming in. And so, if Republicans want to be helpful, if they really want to move forward and put people back to work, what they should be thinking about is, how do we help state and local governments and how do we help the construction industry.”
–Republicans pounced. Romney said almost immediately in Council Bluffs, Iowa, per NBC’s Garrett Haake: ”He said the private sector is doing fine … Is he really that out of touch? I think he’s really defining what it means to be out of touch with reality.”
–The RNC cleverly crashed a video with the same structure and wording as an Obama ’08 attack on John McCain for saying: “The fundamentals of our economy are strong.” RNC video, “Doing Fine” http://bit.ly/LN3Rrv … Obama ’08 “Fundamentals” ad http://bit.ly/JTGf2E
–Obama, four hours after his original appearance, taking a question at the end of an Oval Office pool spray (with Philippine President Benigno Aquino): “Listen, it is absolutely clear that the economy is not doing fine . That’s the reason I had the press conference. That’s why I spent yesterday, the day before yesterday, this past week, this past month, and this past year talking about how we can make the economy stronger. The economy is not doing fine. There are too many people out of work. The housing market is still weak and too many homes underwater. And that’s precisely why I asked Congress to start taking some steps that can make a difference.”
–PLAYBOOK FACTS OF LIFE: Despite the walkback, the Romney campaign regards the comment as a potentially game-changing gift, both to bolster an out-of-touch portrayal and because of the implicit assumption that government spending should be a chief solution.
Stuart Stevens, Romney’s top strategist, told us: “These aren’t gaffes – it’s what they think. They’re just running again reality. It seems no one around the president is capable of telling him the truth about the Obama economy.”

Well…. This simply means: Obama what are you going to do about it? Romney, have you ever proven that you had:
1) The heart to do anything about it
2) Desire to take care of American Citizens (READ: not rich/super rich)
3) A proven plan that works
4) Any experience to bring to the table? ”increasing” jobs in one state is not enough. Try 50. And Compete with all the countries in the world. And reverse your “corporate mindset” that got you your millions in the first place.
Obama? We know austerity doesn’t work. How has your spending worked?
Reader: Hope you get the idea. There is a enough to prove that spending cuts and tax increases are not the best solution and usually end in disaster. More spending? We can’t manage our National Debt. Who has the solution here or is this just politics to get a position in office AFTER a hopeful positive statement that simply is not true? Think Romney cares? Hmmmm….
Obama Economy? 80 to 90% of US? $200,000 of year and less? Most people earn less than $40,000 and 46 Million are in poverty. How is a ‘capital gains’ cut going to work here? Especially if people are loosing their homes? Thanks for the ideas Mr. Romney.
Have your attention?
Did you forget?
