India’s Long-Range Missile Test Alarms China
The successful test launch of a new Indian nuclear-capable missile that gives New Delhi the ability to strike Beijing and Shanghai for the first time will be a source of considerable consternation in China. The launch also will distract from U.S. efforts to keep the pressure on North Korea over its failed long-range rocket launch last week. India’s missile launch provoked a sharp rebuke in Chinese state-run media not only of India, but of Western powers that, at least in China’s eyes, continue to ignore India’s rapidly growing nuclear and missile capabilities.
